UNEMPLOYMENT LWA $400 & $300 UPDATE 09/1/2020 (NEW STATE & DATES!)

FEMA approved another state for a total of forty-one states now approved to receive LWA. Additionally, we have updates on each state’s distribution dates thanks to viewers. FEMA has more money, and some states are now receiving 5 weeks of payments!

All states approved will receive $300 per week except for Kentucky, West Virginia, Vermont, Kansas and Montana who have officially announced they will be contributing an additional $100 per week to the LWA program so their unemployed receive $400 per week.

To be eligible, according to the executive memorandum, you must collect $100 or more per week from your unemployment benefits before taxes to receive LWA. Unlike FPUC where everyone was eligible who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, LWA you must have lost your job due to the pandemic and receive $100 per week or more.

It will be retroactively back dated to August 1st according to the memorandum which is when FPUC the $600 weekly boost expired but claimants from some states are saying they are receiving it from the 8th. For states approved FEMA, who is providing the funding, guarantees three weeks of benefits at $300 per week and now possibly four weeks. This is important because when congress does pass a stimulus package it will likely be retroactive from August 1 yet deducting the weeks you were eligible for LWA.

In the executive memorandum, funds will last until the end of the year or until funds are depleted. FEMA informed us initially they only could provide three weeks of funding. However now FEMA will provide more payments of LWA to some states. At this point in time this isn’t for all states as FEMA originally guaranteed only three weeks of payments but FEMA says some of the earlier states may receive this additional funding.

Distribution time depends on your state. After your state applies and is approved FEMA can provide funding however then the state must distribute the funds and some states are saying this might take a while for their systems to implement.

States that have either been silent or just simply have not managed to see any info on include Washington DC and Nebraska. South Dakota is the only state that has officially declined.

Here are the anticipated distribution dates for states pending approval: Delaware (no info), Illinois (no info), Nevada (4 to 6 weeks after approval), New Jersey (no info), South Carolina (TBD), Kansas (no info), and Wisconsin (TBD).
